Chelsea v PSG: Value lies with Blues for Champions League clash

Published:

PSG go into their Champions league clash with Chelsea this week as favourites to win the match at 6/4 but the value could lie with the Premier League side.

The Blues can be backed at 9/5 with the draw on at 9/4 and judging by the form of both sides the smart money will be on Guus Hiddink’s men.

Chelsea come into the game having lost just one of their last 12 Champions league games at Stamford bridge and just two of their last 15 as hosts in all competitions.

PSG, meanwhile, have won just one of their last four matches in Ligue 1 and just three of their last nine on the road in this competition.

They may have taken the first leg of this tie 2-1 but that was their first win over Chelsea in five attempts.

A draw won’t be good enough for the Premier League side but with five of the last nine meetings between the clubs ending all square a stalemate is certainly worth consideration.

However, a 1-0 win will put Chelsea through to the quarter-finals at 15/2 there could be some value in backing Hiddink’s men to do just enough to scrape through.

Further value could be had in ignoring the front runners in the goalscorer markets too.

Diego Costa remains the focal point of the Blues’ attack and can be backed at 5/1 to open the scoring and 15/8 to net at anytime, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s 23 Ligue 1 goals mean he shouldn’t be overlooked at 9/2 and 6/4 respectively.

The value though could lie in backing Willian to come to Chelsea’s rescue at 9/1 to open the scoring and 10/3 to net at any time.

The Brazilian is Chelsea’s top scorer in the tournament with five goals and with four of those coming first in games he clearly has a penchant for getting his side up and running.
