Ladbrokes Players Championship: Murphy and Trump looking good

Published:

As tournament favourites, both Judd Trump and Shaun Murphy will be expecting to go far in the Ladbrokes Players Championship, and on the basis of their first round victories, the pair are in the sort of form to do just that.

Murphy waltzed past Liang Wenbo 4-1, while Trump claimed the same result against the in-form Martin Gould.

Former World Champion Murphy faces Welshman Dominic Dale in the second round, while Trump will meet Ali Carter in what could be a thrilling battle on the baize.

Mark Selby’s withdrawal has left Murphy with a reasonably tidy run to the last four, where he could face Mark Allen.

Murphy is 3/10 for victory this evening, with Dale 5/2 to send the favourite packing.

Marco Fu saw off Alan McManus 4-3 in the opening round, and the 38-year-old faces Ricky Walden tonight.

The Hong Kong man is 8/11 favourite, with Cheshire’s Walden 11/10.

Robert Milkins is 7/4 to beat second seed Barry Hawkins, while Mark Selby’s replacement Matthew Selt is also in action tonight versus Ben Woollaston and each are 10/11 for make the quarter-finals.

With time running out before the World Championships next month, each win is crucial and we can expect plenty more sublime snooker in Manchester this week.
