Newcastle simply must sack Steve McClaren, say fans

The time has come for Newcastle to take action and bid farewell to the disaster that has been the Steve McClaren era.

That is according to the latest Ladbrokes poll, which showed that the majority of football fans believe the former Derby, England and Middlesbrough boss is unable to turn things around at St James’ Park.

The poll comes in the wake of the humbling 3-1 home defeat at the hands of Bournemouth, which left the Magpies in 19th place in the Premier League with a paltry 24 points.

That result looks to have proven the final straw for a number of supporters with 75 per cent of voters saying it is time to “Sack the Mac”.

Of course this means that a quarter of those asked believes the Newcastle board should keep the faith with McClaren but this could just be because they think he is the right man to guide them in the Championship next season.

The St James’ Park faithful have written an open letter to the club calling for immediate action but unless McClaren is sacked in the coming days he will take charge of their next match on March 14.

Unfortunately for the Magpies gaffer that game comes against league leaders Leicester and sees the visitors priced as 19/4 outsiders.

Newcastle are now 4/9 for relegation and 6/4 to beat the drop and whether or not McClaren is at the helm to see either outcome remains to be seen – 75 per cent of fans certainly hope not though.
