Who is…the uncapped Argentine striker Liverpool are pursuing?

| 27.03.2016

It appears inescapable that Jurgen Klopp will look to perform a facelift on Liverpool this summer, with rumours linking the German manager to new players cropping up with increasing regularity.

The bespectacled boss understandably wants the right profile of player to fit his style and links with the likes of Mario Gotze stand as the club’s loftier transfer ambitions.

It’s not all star-studded arrivals though, with a fair share of unknown quantities cropping up in gossip columns around the land too.

Argentine youngster Lucas Alario certainly fits into the latter category, but has seemingly impressed Klopp and his team of scouts enough to prompt a bid from the Reds.

The Metro claim the Merseyside outfit have lodged £5.7m offer for the 23-year-old River Plate striker, but that it falls some way short of the club’s £8.5m valuation.

Alario has a modest professional record, with just 66 senior appearances to his name across three clubs according to Transfermarkt.

The stats website lists him as having scored 16 goals in those games, but it is likely his most recent exploits in front of goal are what have caught Liverpool’s eye.

Alario scored four times in six games for River Plate last season, after joining the club from Colon mid-way through the campaign.

This term he has featured in four of Los Millonarios’ eight league assignments and has netted twice, with two assists.

According to the Metro, that form is enough to have piqued Inter Milan, Ajax and Palermo’s interest in the player as well as Liverpool’s.

If the Reds want to beat that trio of rivals to the forwards signature, they’ll need to up their supposed bid to meet River Plate’s expectations.
