Busiest day of EU Betting yet sees money for both sides

Referendum watchers in both Dublin and Birmingham weighed in with significant cash bets to give Ladbrokes its busiest day of Euro betting to date.

A middle-aged male customer in the Irish capital placed a series of cash bets on a remain outcome at 4/11, with stakes totalling 10,000 euros, meaning the gentleman will collect 13,666 euros if Britain votes to remain within the EU.

Meanwhile almost simultaneously another older male, described as ‘casually dressed’ entered a branch of the bookmakers in Birmingham to place £5,000 on a Brexit at 2/1, making it the second-largest ‘leave’ wager placed to date.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “We’re yet to hear confirmation that it was Alistair Darling that stirred the punters into action but nonetheless the market sprang to life today.

“We hope that more high-staking referendum speculators continue to come out of the woodwork.”

It’s 5/6 that turnout is over 60.5 per cent while the leave vote percentage is 10/11 over 44.5.
