Tom Hardy is once again the red hot favourite to fill Daniel Craig’s shoes as James Bond after Tom Hiddlestone distanced himself from the iconic role.

Hiddlestone has been talked-up in recent weeks after his turn in the BBC’s The Night Manager earned rave reviews.

However, the 35-year-old star, who rose to prominence as Loki in Marvel’s series of Avengers movies, has called on the media and fans alike to stop the talk of him playing the part of 007.

“I feel like, I want to just make it stop. Because I have no power over it, but that’s what being famous is. You have no power over other people’s opinions,” he tat 5/1

“People have very strong opinions about Bond and why shouldn’t they? But it’s difficult to talk about because it’s a completely unreal conversation in a way.”

The comments have seen Hiddlestone’s odds drift slightly to 5/2, leaving Hardy s the market leader at odds of 6/4.

Hardy’s stock has been steadily rising in recent years with a string of well-received films under his belt.

Performances in movies like Bronson, Inception, The Dark Knight Rises, Mad Max: Fury Road, Legend and The Revenant have allowed him to show his range and many believe has the credentials to take Bond into a new, darker era.

Luther star Idris Elba remains many people’s first choice and is still in the running, with Homeland star Damian Lewis (6/1) and current Superman Henry Cavil also reportedly under consideration at 10/1.
