Leicester’s Ritchie De Laet homing in on unprecedented double

Published:

Leicester City full back Ritchie De Laet could become a pub quiz question for the ages if he can pull off an unprecedented title double this season.

The full back has made a Premier League medal-earning 12 appearances this term, before heading to Championship-chasing Middlesbrough on loan.

With no set requirement on the number of appearances to earn a Championship medal, De Laet – who has featured five times for ‘Boro so far, could well land a historic title double.

It would be some turnaround for a player deemed surplus to requirements at Manchester United four years ago.

Leicester currently sit seven points clear at the top of the Premier League, while Aitor Karanka’s Middlesbrough are three points behind Championship leaders Burnley with a game in hand.

Boro are 6/4 second favourites for the title, while the Foxes are seemingly homing in on the Prem title at 1/3.

Amazingly no player has ever achieved this feat before, and it seems quite unlikely it would ever happen again.

De Laet’s latest effort to bag two titles comes tonight as his ‘Boro side face Huddersfield.

The hosts are 8/13 for victory at the Riverside, with the visiting Terriers 19/4 to dent De Laet’s double dream.

Remember the name folks, don’t let that pub quiz question get away!
