Manchester United set to swoop for veteran Brazilian

Manchester United’s search for defensive reinforcements has taken an unexpected twist, with 33-year-old Wolfsburg centre back Naldo now linked with a move to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have been linked with a number of defensive targets including Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos of Real Madrid, but reports in Germany suggest United are keen on the Brazilian and the player is flattered by the interest.

Naldo scored twice against Louis van Gaal’s side in the Bundesliga club’s 3-2 Champions League victory over the Reds in December and the Dutchman looks to have been suitably impressed.

As ever, the player himself has been outwardly loyal to his current employers but admitting you are honoured by someone’s interest is as good as saying ‘come and get me’ in the modern game.

“Manchester United is a great club and I’m honoured by their interest,” Naldo said when questioned about a possible move.

“However I’m fine and I feel at ease here. So now I think only to end of the season,” he added.

Should the Brazilian opt to move to the north-west he could very well link up with Van Gaal, despite speculation regarding the United manager’s future.

Following his side’s 2-1 FA Cup quarter-final victory over West Ham the Ladbrokes traders have priced an FA Cup win and Van Gaal remaining in charge at just 6/1.

United are next in action at home to bottom side Aston Villa and billed as 1/5 favourites to claim all three points.
