John McGinn named Ladbrokes Championship Player of the Season

John McGinn has picked up the Ladbrokes Championship Player of the Season prize, following a hugely impressive first season with Hibernian.
The 21-year-old has proven himself to be a skilful and creative presence in the Hibs midfield, with a maturity which belies his young years.
Contributing eight assists in the 2015-16 Ladbrokes Championship campaign, the former St Mirren man produced a raft of goalscoring opportunities for the likes of Jason Cummings and Anthony Stokes.
He also chipped in with some important strikes of his own, netting in the play-off victory over Raith Rovers, in addition to goals against the likes of Alloa and former club St Mirren.
However, despite his sizeable contribution for the Easter Road outfit, the modest McGinn opted to lavish the praise on his teammates.
In the aftermath of Hibs’ bus parade to celebrate their Scottish Cup triumph, the midfield maestro remarked that “There were plenty of players on that open-top bus more deserving of a song than me.”
However, there’s little doubt that the Glasgow-born youngster has earned his status as a fans’ favourite, following his hugely impressive displays throughout the campaign.
And it seems that despite narrowly missing out on promotion with the Cabbage, the award-winning midfielder is loving life in Leith, remarking “I’m very happy here. We’ve got a great squad”.
However, it’s clear that McGinn is determined to set this season’s frustrations right next time out, saying “I’ve got unfinished business [at Hibernian]. We’ve got a determination to go and prove ourselves in the league and show that we’re a Premiership club.”
With the added hunger of falling short in the Ladbrokes Premiership play-offs, and the confidence boost of helping the Hibees end their 114-year wait for the Scottish Cup, the prospect of facing McGinn next season is likely to give defenders throughout the land some sleepless nights.
After two near misses, Hibernian are 6/4 to win promotion in style next season by lifting the Ladbrokes Championship title. If anything could match the joy of ending their Scottish Cup hoodoo, that could be it.
Meanwhile, 8/1 says that McGinn boosts his growing reputation for goalscoring with 10 or more strikes in next season’s Ladbrokes Championship. Could that be what fires Hibs back to the top-flight?
