Watford looking to pip Roma to signing of Serie A ace

Published:

Having just secured the signature of teenage prodigy Jerome Sinclair from Liverpool, new Watford boss Walter Mazzarri is not content to rest on his laurels – with the Hornets gaffer reportedly set to sign Torino right-back Bruno Peres from under the noses of Serie A outfit Roma.

The Brazilian helped I Granata to a solid mid-table finish last season, thanks to his consistently solid displays and ability to create goals from the right flank – producing seven assists during their league campaign, as well as chipping in with several goals.

With 69 games at Torino under his belt, following a 2014 move from homeland club Santos, the pacy 26-year-old renewed his contract last year, but his impressive displays have seen the player’s demand rise – and word is the Turin outfit are prepared to sell.

Serie A heavyweights Roma had been favourites to snap up the Sao Paulo native. However, with I Granata unlikely to want to sell to their direct rivals, and Hornets manager Mazzarri well-connected in Italian football, the Hertfordshire club now look the most likely side to pick up the talented Brazilian this summer.

And with Transfermarkt.co.uk valuing the player at £7.5m, the Vicarage Road board wouldn’t have to break the bank to get their man – especially with the new TV rights deal beginning in August.

With Mazzarri continuing to improve the squad, the Hornets look unlikely to face the drop at 2/1, while optimistic Watford fans can back the side to crack into the Premier League’s top four next season (100/1) or even to win the title (1000/1).

Bringing in players of Peres’ quality at Vicarage Road will only increase the chance of Watford defying the odds to enjoy a Leicester-esque rise this summer.
