Man City favourites to prise world-class striker from Barcelona

New Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has already brought in a flurry of exciting acquisitions since his arrival, but he could be set to make the biggest transfer coup in world football this summer by bringing Luis Suarez to the Etihad.

The Barcelona hitman scored an astonishing 40 goals in 35 games during last season’s La Liga campaign, and the odds of him uniting with a former Blaugrana legend at Manchester City, have been cut from 12/1 to 7/1, with Pep Guardiola reportedly making the Uruguayan a transfer priority.

Meanwhile, there are a trio of other Premier League outfits priced as 25/1 outsiders to bring the Salto native back to English football.

Liverpool are among the group, with Suarez still revered by the Anfield faithful – though he could quickly become an unpopular figure on Merseyside if he heads to Arsenal or Man United (both also 25s).

However, Barca fans can rest easy that he won’t be strengthening their rivals anytime soon, with the bookies essentially ruling out a move to Real Madrid at 40/1.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: “United may have nabbed Zlatan, but the blue half of Manchester could put their neighbours in the shadows by bringing Suarez to the Etihad this summer.”

Man City are 12/5 favourites to lift the Premier League title this season, and those odds could take a serious tumble if they can secure Suarez’s signature before the window slams shut.
