How Twitter reacted to Team GB’s Olympic goldrush

As it turned out, Super Saturday came a day late at the Olympics and was perhaps even better than that fateful day in London four years ago.

Team GB claimed five gold medals on Sunday evening to surge into second place on the medal table. In addition to the endless success of our boys and girls, Usain Bolt made history in the 100m and the world record was broken in the 400m.

Here’s the best from Twitter as the masses reacted to the best day at the 2016 Games so far:

Max Whitlock was undoubtedly the star of the Team GB show, winning gymnastics golds in the floor and pommel horse within an hour of each other

Louis Smith collected silver in the pommel, matching his 2012 achievement

After becoming the first golfer to record an Olympic hole in one in the first round, Justin Rose saw off the fight of Henrik Stenson to win by by two strokes

Andy Murray then took to the tennis court and retained his Olympic title with a four-set victory over Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro. He even remained composed enough to correct a factually inaccurate John Inverdale

As has become customary, Team GB’s domination in the velodrome continued. A 1-2 finish was guaranteed in the men’s individual sprint. Jason Kenny defeated Callum Skinner to claim a fifth career gold medal, but a Canadian MP got the congratulations

The Team GB goldrush calmed down just in time for Bolt to take centre stage. The Jamaican became the first man to win three successive golds in the 100m and produced a smile for the cameras as he crossed the line

Bolt’s performance wasn’t the end of the action either, as the 17-year world record Michael Johnson held in the 400m was broken by South African Wayde van Niekerk. He did it from lane eight.
