Ladbrokes SPFL: St Mirren set to grab first win of the season

Published:

We may only be three games in, but already there’s an exciting title tussle emerging in every division of the Ladbrokes SPFL.

Raith Rovers and Hibernian are neck and neck in the Ladbrokes Championship, Livingston and Alloa look unstoppable atop League 1, while high-scoring Forfar Athletic are keeping their title rivals at bay League 2.

But we could also see some of the early-season strugglers like St Mirren and Stranraer begin to pick up wins.

Here’s our tips on who to back ahead of another stellar set of fixtures throughout the leagues.

Ladbrokes Championship

St Mirren head to Ayr United, with both sides looking for a first win of the league campaign. Having already beaten their visitors in the League Cup, the Paisley outfit look good for another victory over the basement-dwelling Honest Men at 23/20.

Meanwhile, 5/2 shots Queen of the South look set to build on their run of four wins in five games with a victory at inconsistent Dunfermline.

Table-topping Raith Rovers look excellent value to beat Dundee United, with 4/1 for the Fife outfit to inflict the Terrors’ sixth home defeat of 2016.

Dumbarton have impressed so far this season and could well get a draw at Falkirk (12/5) while Morton – who won 3-0 on their last visit to Easter Road – are well worth a few quid at 10/1 for victory at Hibernian, while it’s 150/1 they match that margin of victory tomorrow.

Ladbrokes League 1

Livingston have seen 17 goals hit the net in their first three games, so backing over 4.5 goals in their meeting with Queen’s Park at 15/4 looks like superb value.

Three home defeats in four for Albion Rovers, and a trio of away wins to kick off the campaign for Alloa. The Wasps could well run riot at Cliftonhill, with a 4-0 win for the visitors temptingly priced at 33/1.

Brechin’s title odds have already tumbled from 20s to 14/1, and having won their last six meetings with East Fife, they’re 2/1 to continue their promotion push with victory at Bayview Stadium.

Stranraer’s 7-1 cup mauling of Spartans last week makes the 7/5 for them to beat Peterhead tempting, while  Airdrieonians look good for another 2-1 win over Stenhousemuir (15/2).

Ladbrokes League 2

The last five meetings between Montrose and Annan Athletic have produced three wins for the Galabankies, two draws, and a whopping 25 goals. That means we’re tipping Annan to win and Both Teams to Score at 11/5.

Cowdenbeath kickstarted their League 2 campaign with a comfortable 2-0 win over Edinburgh City, but with Clyde a tougher test, we’d recommend getting on the 13/5 for these two to share the points at Broadwood Stadium.

Forfar’s high-scoring ways could be set to end against Elgin City, with the visitors water-tight defence conceding just once in three league outings. The last trio of meetings between these two have ended with two goals or fewer, so back under 2.5 goals at 5/4.

Berwick Rangers look good to brush aside struggling newboys Edinburgh City, with 11/1 for the borders club to win 2-0, while Arbroath can be backed at 2/1 to chalk up a third clean sheet in all competitions when they host Stirling Albion.
