Poll Reaction: Outdoing Arsenal still priority for Tottenham fans

Published:

Finishing above Arsenal is more important for Tottenham than a top-four finish or winning a trophy.

That’s the verdict of today’s Ladbrokes poll, which asked what the priority should be for Spurs this season.

The White Hart Lane outfit haven’t finished above their north London rivals in the Premier League since the 1994-95 season, with last season’s final-day defeat at Newcastle United cruelly ending Tottenham’s hope of ending that 21-year streak.

And 40 per cent of you voted to say that ending Arsenal’s two decades of dominance would be the most important achievement for Spurs this season.

Having signed two outstanding talents in Victor Wanyama and Dutch hitman Vincent Janssen during this transfer window, it’s 7/2 for Mauricio Pochettino’s men to end this season as the top Premier League club in London.

Second in the poll came a top-four finish, with Spurs fans keen to see the team continue their association with the Champions League, following four successive years of Europa League football before securing that third-placed Premier League spot last season.

Interestingly, lifting silverware this season appears to be the least pressing concern for those of a Tottenham persuasion, with just 26 per cent of voters believing that winning a trophy should be the main aim in the coming year.

Tottenham begin the Premier League campaign with a trip to Everton, where they’re 6/4 to win at Goodison Park for the second time in three visits.

Meanwhile, those tipping Spurs for another top-four finish this season can back them to do just that at 6/5.
