Strong season at Hibernian may lead to Scotland call-up for young striker

He’s already scored two goals in one outing so far in this season’s Ladbrokes Championship, and if he keeps up that kind of form, it won’t be long before Jason Cummings receives his first senior national call-up.
Despite recent interest from Peterborough, the 21-year-old striker has decided to stay on at Easter Road under manager Neil Lennon, signing a new four-year deal this summer.
And that news will delight Hibernian fans who will be hoping their team can return to the Premiership at the third time of asking.
Snatching his first goal of the season in just the second minute away at Falkirk last weekend, Cummings will be looking to add to his tally this Saturday at home to Dunfermline.
The last time these two sides met in the league was back in 2012 when Hibs ran out 4-0 winners. It’s 16/1 for a repeat of that result, and should the Hibees win by that scoreline, you can expect Cummings to grab himself a goal or two.
The striker is currently 13/8 to finish as top goalscorer in the Championship come the end of the season, and he already has a two-goal advantage over the second-favourite in the market, Dundee United striker Simon Murray, who is 6/1 for the award.
Cummings was leading goalscorer in the Championship back in the 2014-15 campaign with 18 goals, while he finished second only to Rangers forward Martyn Waghorn in the scoring charts last time out – again scoring 18 times in 33 appearances.
But with two years worth of experience under his belt at this level, the born finisher will be looking to break the 20-goal barrier this season – and should he do that, it’s likely there’ll be plenty of cries for a first international cap for the young lad from Edinburgh.
