Beckham, Scholes, Lampard or Gerrard: Which star won today’s poll?

Published:

Today’s poll concerns four of the best English midfielders in modern history. For all their club honours, it remains a mystery why they never won anything with their country.

And while we’re still trying to work that out, we thought we’d throw another question to our followers.

David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Steven Gerrard or Frank Lampard. Who was the best midfielder of the Golden Generation?

Between them, they have five Champions League medals and have accumulated an incredible 391 international caps, but only one could be the winner of today’s poll.

On this day 22 years ago, Paul Scholes stepped out onto a football pitch in a Manchester United shirt for the first ever time in a League Cup tie against Port Vale. His brace in that game ensured the Red Devils won that fixture 2-1, and the rest, as they say, is history.

He would go on to spend his whole career at the club, making 499 appearances and scoring 107 goals in the process and is now one of the most decorated players in the club’s history, boasting 11 Premier League medals, two Champions Leagues, three FA cups and two League Cups to his name.

Based on trophy cabinets alone, it’s no surprise that the Ginger Prince ran away with today’s poll with a staggering 54 per cent of today’s vote, while Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard was some way off in second-place with 22 per cent.

Meanwhile, David Beckham and Frank Lampard shared third-place in the voting with 12 per cent each.
