Keep it Simple when betting on British Champions Day

British Champions Day represents the finale of the Flat racing season, with £4.2m in prize money up for grabs across the six-race card.
Here are our three eye-catching bets from the Ascot action:
Aidan O’Brien’s three-year-old has not put a foot wrong in her last two starts – winning the Irish Oaks and Yorkshire Oaks. The form of the latter has been considerably franked since, with runner-up Found going on to win the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
She has been well rested for this, having been kept off the track since mid-August and has the added advantage of receiving a 7lb weight-for-age allowance from those the betting considers to be her main rivals.
This allowance is also significant given that Seventh Heaven is the highest-rated entrant in the British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes.
The only real concern will be if Ascot sees any rain in the final build up to the race as Seventh Heaven ideally wouldn’t want conditions too soft.
Despite being run over 2m, there has been a clear draw bias in the British Champions Long Distance Cup of late. Four of the five winners since 2011 have broken from either stall two, three or four.
This is bad news for short-priced favourite Order Of St George, who is drawn in completely the wrong position in stall nine. He may also be vulnerable as this comes just 13 days after his massive run in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe when finishing third.
From those in the best stalls, Suegioo has regularly come up short at this level and Sheikhzayedroad is regarded as being better on a left-handed track. Ascot is right handed.
This leaves last year’s St Leger winner Simple Verse, who is having a first crack at 2m here. She gets a 3lb fillies allowance and her victory over 1m6f at Doncaster last time suggested this may prove her optimum distance.
There has been a healthy strike rate of big-priced winners of the British Champion Stakes in recent times, with six of the last 14 winners sent off at double-figure odds. This includes Fascinating Rock 12 months ago.
Jack Hobbs was the beaten 1/1 favourite on that occasion, when arguably ridden too prominently from a wide draw before being caught close home.
He has barely been seen this season having injured a pelvic muscle at Newmarket in April and it would take a fine training performance from John Gosden to get him back to his best here without a preparation run.
However, gallop reports have been promising and based on official ratings, only Almanzor is considered superior.
