Man City considering raiding Chelsea’s bench for pass-master

| 23.10.2016

After going winless in four straight matches, Pep Guardiola is becoming acutely aware of changes he needs to make at Manchester City.

The Spanish manager, who is having his first period of struggle since taking over at the Etihad Stadium, has recently declared his wholehearted belief in the system of football he employs.

However, it may be more apparent than ever that the former Barcelona tactician will need new faces at the club if he is to have continued success with the Premier League favourites.

As a result the Citizens have been linked with a move for Chelsea outcast Cesc Fabregas to bolster the midfield ranks.

Beyond new signing Ilkay Gundogan, Guardiola has precious few options to lay deep in midfield and dictate the tempo of a game.

Fernandinho’s form has tailed off after a strong start and, according to The Sun on Sunday, Fabregas could be bought to provide further creativity to the squad.

Fabregas has endured a tough beginning to life under new Chelsea boss Antonio Conte. The 29-year-old has been afforded just two starts under the Italian manager, with only one of those arriving in the top-flight.

Guardiola and Fabregas have already worked together before of course, with the former prising the midfielder away from Arsenal to sign him at Barcelona in 2011.

Fabregas flourished in his first campaign, scoring 15 goals and registering 20 assists as the Blaugrana bagged four trophies.

Considering both parties’ situations, a reunion looks a good solution.

Both Man City and Chelsea are in action on Sunday. The Citizens welcome Southampton to the Etihad and are 9/20 to win, while Chelsea take on Manchester United at Stamford Bridge rated at 5/4.
