Win streaks and trophies in store for Man City after mini-slump

Man City’s 1-1 draw at home to Southampton last time out ensured Pep Guardiola matched the longest winless streak of his managerial career.

We looked at how the Spaniard’s run of woe at the Etihad compared to other sticky patches he’d suffered when it stood at four games, but can now return to deliver some good news following the Saints stalemate.

Guardiola has never gone more than five games without victory. In fact, he’s only endured a run this long once before and he bounced back from it in incredible fashion.

The last streak arrived at Barcelona and holds a couple of similarities to the one he’s currently experiencing with the Citizens.

That was his first season at the helm of a club too and also contained two defeats and three draws. If the similarities between the two experiences are to continue though, then our customers should be scrambling to back City to win the Premier League at 11/8.

In 2008/09, the Blaugrana got back to winning ways with a 2-0 home triumph against Athletic Bilbao. They then went on to claim victory in each of their next six outings in all competitions and didn’t lose again until four games before the end of the season.

Spring-boarding back into form so astonishingly helped the club land the treble that season, taking the La Liga title by nine points from Real Madrid and both the Champions League and Copa del Rey to their trophy cabinet.

That omen indicates that the 150/1 on offer about City claiming a Premier League-FA Cup-Champions League triple of their own looks to be worth a pound or two.

Despite receiving a 4-0 humbling from Barca in Group C last week, the Etihad outfit still look on course to progress to the knockout stages, while they are yet to be entered into the FA Cup hat and are on top of the Premier League tree on goal difference.
