Mourinho and Man United odds-on to fail in top-four quest

Published:

Manchester United are odds-on NOT to finish in the top-four this season following their 1-1 draw against Arsenal at Old Trafford.

Our traders go 4/11 that Jose Mourinho’s side fail to grab a Champions League spot. In truth, both Mourinho and opposite number Arsene Wenger were left frustrated but it was the home side who’ll feel most disappointed.

United dominated for large periods but were left to rue their failure to hold onto the advantage handed to them by Juan Mata.

Instead, Olivier Giroud powered his header past David de Gea in the 89th minute to afford Arsenal an underserved point.

The Gunners are now 6/1 to land a first Premier League title since 2004 although they’ll need to show greater determination and killer instinct than they did against their old sparring partners.

While they managed to rescue a point, Giroud’s converted effort was the north London outfit’s only attempt on goal in a forgettable 90+ minutes from their fans’ perspective.

But despite being unable to claw back more ground on the teams above, the bookies have effectively ruled out the chances of Mourinho being the next Premier League manager to leave.

That’s a 25/1 eventuality with the Portuguese seemingly safe for now despite collecting just 18 points from his opening 12 league games – a only in 2004-05 have United amassed fewer during the same period.
