Gary Jardine has won the first Ladbrokes League 2 Manager of the Month award in Edinburgh City’s history.

And in his opinion the belief of his squad inspired them to follow up a disastrous start to life in the Ladbrokes SPFL with an award-winning run.

The Citizens boss has taken the award in the club’s first season in the league after leading them to two wins and a draw.

They now sit eighth in the table after the continuation of an eight-game unbeaten run that started with their first victory as a Ladbrokes SPFL club at the start of November.

Before that, Jardine’s men hadn’t won in their first 17 competitive matches of the season.

And after worrying that they could end up being cut adrift at the bottom of League 2, Jardine hailed his players for the way they’ve turned it around.

Speaking exclusively to Ladbrokes News after picking up his award, the City boss said: “I am delighted – not as much on a personal level, but more as a group.

“Everything is new to us and we endured a really tough time at the start of the season, going a lot of games without winning.

“The confidence didn’t hit a low, but the boys were down. They’d been working their socks off.

“It looked like we were going to be cast adrift at one point and I think some other teams took solace from that.

“But over the last two months we’ve turned things around going into the second quarter looking at the teams around us.

“It really only was a belief and confidence that allowed us to go on an unbeaten run.

“I get the credit for it with the Manager of the Month, but it’s down to the players and the way everybody has pulled together.”

City are 6/4 to continue their strong form with a win over Stirling Albion this Saturday.
