Will Stirling Albion or Edinburgh City get crucial survival boost?

Published:

It’s all about surviving their first season in the Ladbrokes SPFL for Edinburgh City, while Stirling Albion are also looking to avoid the dreaded relegation play-off in League 2. And the pair meet on Saturday in what could turn out to be a crucial clash.

The Binos have a five-point cushion on bottom club Cowdenbeath, with ninth-placed City a point behind this weekend’s opponents. However, the Blue Brazil have two games in hand on both of the pair, each of whom need a boost in form. Pronto.

City are winless in their last six games, but can take encouragement from the fact their defence is still holding up well. Gary Jardine’s side boast the third-best defensive record in the division, with their clean sheet against Clyde earlier this month their eighth of the league campaign.

By contrast, Albion keep scoring but just can’t seem to grab a win. However, last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Gayfield will no doubt have given them confidence, as will salvaging a point after being 2-0 down with 85 minutes gone against Berwick Rangers in the previous outing.

In this season’s prior meetings, it’s the Citizens who have edged it. They took a historic point – their first ever in the SPFL – at Forthbank, after four losses to begin the season. And then they dominated and won 2-0 at Meadowbank Stadium, with Ouzy See scoring a memorable second goal for the hosts.

That means it’s tough to call who’ll win this one. However, we do know both sides will be going all out, with a point not enough to ward off the spectre of a Cowdenbeath challenge.

It’s 13/10 for a Stirling win, with 19/10 for City to take the points and 23/10 for a share of the spoils.
