Liverpool clear favourites to snap up Arsenal & England star in Jan

It’s not been a bad first-half to the season for Liverpool. Second in the Premier League, just six points off leaders Chelsea, and with more goals to their name than any other side in the division.

But Jurgen Klopp isn’t one to rest on his laurels. And if today’s papers are anything to go by, he could be adding Arsenal and England international Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to his ranks very soon.

The odds certainly suggest that could well happen when the January transfer window opens, with traders making the Reds clear favourites at 5/1 for The Ox’s signature next month.

Such is the wealth of attacking talent at Arsene Wenger’s disposal, it’s been difficult for Oxlade-Chamberlain to hold down a first-team place, with just eight league starts to his name so far this season.

And with Danny Welbeck returning to training after nine months out, it’s likely the 23-year-old will fall even further down the pecking order, following the emergence of Alex Iwobi, and the blistering start Theo Walcott has had to the campaign.

He may have already matched his best goal tally in an Arsenal shirt this year, but it’s The Ox’s inconsistency which has cost him a regular place in the starting XI.

But perhaps a change of scenery would bring out the best in the forward, who has 24 senior international caps to his name.

And there’s no place better right now for him than Anfield, with Liverpool flying in Klopp’s first full season in charge of the Reds.

He certainly boasts all the credentials to force his way into the Merseyside outfit, too. A physical presence with bags of energy, Oxlade-Chamberlain is also remarkably versatile – with the ability to play on either wing, in the number 10 role, or a deeper position in the centre of midfield.

It’s thought Liverpool would have to part with more than £20m for his services though.

But with his contract set to run out in 2018, the Gunners run the risk of losing him for nothing if they keep hold of him for another 12 months.

What do supporters think? Would The Ox be a welcomed addition to this Liverpool side, and would Wenger be crazy to let him go?
