Odds suggest West Brom outcast will finally leave the Hawthorns

It’s not too long ago that West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino was tipped to be the next great England striker. He even received a call-up to the senior national side, and was the subject of a potential move to Tottenham Hotspur.

All of that came back in the 2014-15 campaign. Aged just 21 at the time, Berahino netted an impressive 14 goals in 32 Premier League starts for the Baggies, who were fancied by many for the drop that year.

Unfortunately for Berahino, a move to a bigger club the following summer never happened, with West Brom boss Tony Pulis refusing to accept anything less than £30m for the forward’s services.

It was an understandable demand at the time, too. Knowing how much money the likes of Spurs had to play with in the transfer market, Pulis didn’t want to give a Premier League rival a future England star for next to nothing.

Since then, though, things have taken a horrible turn for Berahino at the Hawthorns.

Player and managerial spats have meant the striker has been left out in the cold, not featuring for the first-team for over three months.

And with just four top-flight goals to his name since that incredible season, Pulis’ stubborness two years ago may have come back to bite him.

It’s clear there’s no future for Berahino with the Black Country outfit, but there’s no way the Baggies will receive anything near £30m for the player now.

And that means a whole host of clubs could make a move for him when the January transfer window opens, with the Burundi-born man now just 7/4 to leave the club next month.

It may not be a move to Spurs or Manchester United that Berahino secures, but there are certainly plenty of sides that could do with him in their ranks.

West Ham is one potential destination. The Hammers have had a shaky start to this campaign, and much of that has been to do with their lack of goals. Juventus loanee Simone Zaza has already been sent back to Italy, and Andy Carroll continues to struggle for fitness.

That leaves a gap up-front that Berahino could fill.

Another option is Southampton, a club who pride themselves on offering opportunities to young English players.

Throw into the mix the fact that they’ll be without their main striker, Charlie Austin, for at least four months, and they desperately need to get some fresh legs in.

What do fans want to see? Should Berahino be given another chance at West Brom, or is it time for Pulis to cut his losses and send the striker on his way?
