3 ways you should back Tottenham for victory at Man City

Published:

With Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City having disintegrated at Everton last weekend, and Tottenham in sensational form, it’s a real surprise to see Spurs priced up at 13/5 for victory at the Etihad.

Especially so when you consider that the north London outfit have won each of their last three meetings with the Citizens, and head into this game on a seven-game winning streak, while City have lost two of their last four – including that 4-0 trouncing at Goodison Park.

And with Spurs handsomely priced to simply win, there’s similarly generous prices across the board for Mauricio Pochettino’s side. Here are three the Ladbrokes News team are backing to come in…

Follow the Kane train to victory…

Last season’s Premier League Golden Boot winner has been in spellbinding form of late, netting nine times in as many games since the start of December.

He’s also heading into a fixture where he tends to flourish – scoring in the home and away victories against Man City last season. And when Harry Kane scores, there’s a very high chance of a Tottenham win.

Of the 57 games where he’s found the net for the Lilywhites, 44 have ended with Spurs claiming victory – a 77 per cent record. So while the 11/8 for Kane to net anytime looks a decent bet, it’s the 7/2 wincast where the best value seems to lie.

Best Bet: Harry Kane to score and Tottenham to win @ 7/2

Poch’s men are two good for City

While Everton managed double that margin last weekend, there’s generally a good chance that when Man City lose, it will be by a two-goal margin. Three of their seven losses this season have come by a pair of goals – including October’s 2-0 loss at White Hart Lane.

For Tottenham’s part, two of their last three games have been won by that amount, with a couple of 2-0 victories – against Chelsea and Aston Villa respectively. And with double-figure odds available for a repeat of that feat on Saturday, it’s already proving a popular bet.

Best Bet: Tottenham to win by 2 goals @ 10/1

Visitors to lead and stay ahead

Of Tottenham’s 17 wins in all competitions this season, they’ve been ahead at half-time on 10 occasions, including each of their last three matches. And as for the Sky Blues, they’ve already been trailing at the interval in five of their seven defeats this season.

So, with Pochettino’s charges tending to strike early and stay ahead, and City prone to conceding an early goal (conceding five times in the opening 10 minutes since the start of December), backing Spurs to lead at half-time and go on to victory looks like a very savvy bet.

Best Bet: Half Time/Full Time: Tottenham/Tottenham @ 5/1
