Swansea star Sigurdsson emerges as West Ham’s Payet replacement

With Dimitri Payet’s West Ham future continuing to swim around in a pool of uncertainty, the question remains open as to who the London outfit would bring in to replace him.
Boss Slaven Bilic revealed his French star doesn’t want to play for the club, and reports in the press have claimed Swansea star Gylfi Sigurdsson is the man to succeed Payet in east London.
The Daily Express believe the Icelandic midfielder is the man West Ham will turn to, as, when or if Payet chooses to leave.
Marseille are the odds-on favourites to land the wantaway winger.
Sigurdsson has continued to impress as Swansea have battled relegation this season, but it seems unlikely he will remain at the Welsh club should they drop into the Championship.
The Iceland international has scored five goals and produced six assists this term.
Valued by transfermarkt.co.uk at just under £15m, Sigurdsson’s contract with Swansea runs until 2020, meaning West Ham would likely require at least £25m to land the 27-year-old.
But with reports claiming the Irons won’t sell Payet for less than £35m-40m, that shouldn’t be a problem.
It remains to be seen if Bilic plays his main man this weekend, when the Hammers host Crystal Palace.
Despite all the furore this week, the bookies still make the Hammers favourites for the game at 29/20.
