When will Romelu Lukaku break Everton’s 11-year-old record?

Game after game, Everton’s Romelu Lukaku continues to prove himself as one of the deadliest strikers on the planet.

Despite being just 23-years-old, the Belgium international has already netted more than 10 goals in five consecutive Premier League seasons, and last year became only the fifth player to score more than fifty goals under the age of 23.

But it doesn’t end there for the 6ft 2in striker.

In fact, it’s looking increasingly likely he’ll break a record which has stood since Lukaku himself was coming to the end of a four-year spell at Belgian outfit Lierse SK.

In case you were wondering, he scored 121 goals in that time as a youngster.

With 55 Premier League goals already to his name for the Toffees, he’s now five away from equalling Duncan Ferguson’s record tally of 60.

Will he do it? Absolutely.

The question is when?

February 2017 – 7/1

Everton still have one game to play in January against Crystal Palace, a side who the Belgian has already netted against on four previous occasions in his career.

A goal or two in this fixture will inevitably see the 7/1 take a massive drop, especially when you look at the four top-flight fixtures Everton face in February.

Stoke, Bournemouth, Middlesbrough and Sunderland are their four opponents. And they’re all games in which not only will Toffees supporters feel confident of winning, but they should do by convincing margins.

Do so, and it’s likely Lukaku will find himself amongst the goals. For us, this is where the value lies.

March – 6/4

However, were Lukaku to score four or five goals between now and March, then it’s likely he’d break the record in this month.

There’s even the potential to do it against one of his former clubs, West Bromwich Albion, on March 11. They had the chance to sign the Belgian on a permanent deal when he was just 20, but couldn’t meet Chelsea’s asking price.

April – 5/4

Lukaku has averaged a goal every 2.35 games in the Premier League since his debut back in 2011. If he keeps up with that ratio, statistics show that he should break the record in 14 games from now.

Everton’s opponents on that day? Chelsea – the ones that let him go.

May 2017 – 9/1

Okay, if Lukaku hasn’t broken Ferguson’s record by this point, then ignore all of the hype!

He’ll have 14 chances to do it between now and then. But after scoring seven in his last 14 league matches, we’re confident the forward can get the record under his belt before this point.

Not to break the record in the 2016-17 season – 10/1
