Everton lead Leicester in race for Brazilian midfield dynamo

He may have only joined Hamburg in the January transfer window, but already defensive midfielder Walace is being linked with a move to Everton and Leicester City, with the pair reportedly willing to splash the cash on the Brazilian.

The 21-year-old midfield powerhouse began his career with homeland giants Gremio, helping them to a Copa do Brazil title in 2016, and catching the eye of numerous European clubs with his imposing physique and commanding displays.

And he’s shown he can impress on the big stage, playing a vital part in Brazil to Olympic Gold at Rio 2016, and impressing against a number of the continent’s top sides in the Copa Libertadores.

Despite Hamburg winning the battle for his services last month, it’s believed the Salvador native is keen on a move to the Premier League this summer, with Everton now 4/1 favourites for his signature – having been as long as 8/1 yesterday.

Next up at 6/1 are Leicester City, whose pursuit of the youngster is likely to hinge on whether or not they can beat the drop this season.

They’re followed by Lazio and Tottenham Hotspur at 10s, with Arsenal and Stoke City rounding out the betting at 16/1.

Though a summer move for Walace could well be on the cards, boss Ronald Koeman will have to make do with the squad currently at his disposal as they face Sunderland next weekend.

Everton are 2/5 for victory, as former Toffees boss David Moyes returns to Goodison Park.
