General Election punters increasingly backing hung Parliament

| 06.06.2017

The General Election is now just a few days away and political punters are increasingly leaning towards a hung Parliament, according to the latest market moves.

With Labour closing the gap in the polls, the Conservatives’ hopes of securing a sizeable majority are perceived to under threat.

And that’s led to the current swathe of money ahead of Thursday’s vote.

Matthew Shaddick, Head of Political Betting at Ladbrokes, said:  “The biggest shift we’ve seen this week is punters backing a hung Parliament. At the beginning of the election it was as small as 5 per cent and today it’s at 20 per cent.

“With punters now anticipating a Tory majority of 70, down from 150 at the beginning of the election we’re offering 20/1 for another election this year.”
