Stoke City looking to swoop in on Hull City’s teenage defence ace

With an average squad age touching on 29, Stoke City could do with investing in youth this summer, and one ideal target is Hull City ace Josh Tymon.

The 18-year-old was one of the few positives to the Tigers’ campaign last term, breaking out into the first team in January.

He featured in the 0-0 draw with Manchester United and the 2-0 win over Liverpool, making five league appearances in all.

And take what you will from the fact that Hull picked up five points from those games, far better than their record without the left-back.

In total, Tymon played 12 times across league and cups last term, gathering vital experience each time.

And he followed that up by playing in every game as England won this summer’s Toulon Tournament for the second successive year.

But crucially, Tymon is yet to sign professional terms with relegated Hull, and that could prove a wise move.

He played last season while still on scholarship terms of £160-per-week, although Hull had made a professional offer some months back.

It’s believed Tymon was unimpressed with the deal on the table however, and has held out until the summer.

The Daily Mail claim Stoke are hoping to muscle in on the stand-off, and secure Hull’s Young Player of the Year.

The move would certainly bring some welcome competition in Staffordshire, with Eric Pieters the only definitive left-back for Mark Hughes.

Plus, Tymon is 10 years Pieters’ junior, bringing longevity in addition to a battle for the role.

A tribunal may be required if the two clubs cannot agree on a fee.

But either way, though this is unlikely to be Stoke’s headline deal of the summer, Tymon looks a player of great potential, and is one to watch in the years to come.
