Enable to star in King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes

We’re in for a treat this Saturday at Ascot as the 77th running of the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes includes one of the major stars of flat racing.

Dual Oaks winner Enable has been left in for the Group One renewal despite reports she would be rested after her heroics at the Curragh earlier this month.

The John Gosden-trained filly has been given the go-ahead initially, with confirmation of her participation to come later in the week.

Our traders are taking few chances with her, either, installing the three-year-old as 15/8 favourite.

Interestingly, though, only four times this century has a three-year-old won this race. Should Enable see off the field, it would be another remarkable feat.

She might not have it all her own way, though, with it being a very competitive-looking renewal.
You’ve got the Irish Derby winner Jack Hobbs in there, alongside former Eclipse winners Hawkbill & Ulysses, Ballydoyle’s star Highland Reel and the recently impressive Frontiersman.

Enable looks the one to beat here, though, despite the competition. She’ll have weight allowances going in her favour, plus Gosden also added that he thinks the soft ground will favour her on the day.

Frankie Dettori looks like he’s back on-board, having previously admitted being a huge fan of Enable, riding her to glory a fortnight ago.

Whatever happens, Saturday’s showpiece looks like it could be a belter.
