Meet the stars of Real Salt Lake…Man United’s next opponents

| 17.07.2017

Manchester United began their latest tour of the United States with a 5-2 rout of LA Galaxy on Sunday, with Marcus Rashford the star of the show. And the Red Devils will be hoping for more of the same as they face Real Salt Lake on Tuesday.

But despite an inconsistent season so far, the 2011 CONCACAF Champions League Finalists have plenty of quality in their ranks. So, without further ado, here are the key trio who could cause problems for Jose Mourinho’s men in Utah.

Kyle Beckerman (DM)

America’s answer to Michael Carrick, the seemingly ageless Beckerman has spent more than a decade with the Royals. Most notably, he helped the club to an MLS Cup crown in 2009 – but his ‘club legend’ status has come from providing year after year of composed, reliable displays at the heart of midfield since.

Still going strong at 35-years-old, he chalked up the 40th goal of his club career against LA Galaxy earlier this month. Also a key part of the U.S. national team’s success over the past decade, he starred as they won the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2013.

A true legend of the American game. Perhaps the only thing missing from his career is a goal against the mighty Manchester United…

Luke Mulholland (AM)

The 28-year-old midfielder would go down as a ‘local lad’ in this fixture…but only if he was wearing the red-and-white of Man United.

Born in Preston, the experienced Mulholland came through the U.S. collegiate soccer system, before winning back-to-back NASL titles at two different clubs. He then joined Real Salt Lake in 2014, becoming an instant hit for his tough-tackling and knack for grabbing crucial goals.

With tricky footwork and a fiery long-range strike, United’s backline definitely need to keep an eye on the Lancashire-born ace.

Yura Movsisian (CF)

There’s a familiar face awaiting Henrikh Mkhitaryan in this game, with the United ace having played alongside this RSL hitman for Armenia on no fewer than 28 occasions.

With Movsisian’s last international goal set up by Mkhitaryan, and the former’s last international assist teeing up the Man United ace to score, it’s fair to say these two have had quite the partnership.

With a record of 107 goals in 297 club games, Movsivian has done the business in the top-flight in America, Russia and Denmark, and shows no signs of slowing up, with 15 goals in MLS since the beginning of 2016. And he’ll be very keen to show his famous Armenia teammate just what he can do on this stage.

In the match betting, Real Salt Lake are a whopping 10/1 for victory, with Man United hot favourites at 2/11 and the draw priced up at 5/1.
