McGregor 10x more popular with punters in build-up to blockbuster bout

Published:

With just two-and-a-half weeks to go until the bout of the decade, we can reveal that Conor McGregor is riding the cusp of a huge wave of British support.

The Irishman’s odds have tumbled from 6/1 to just 7/2 since the book opened on his fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. back in June.

Our traders have informed us that our punters are backing the ‘Notorious’ at a rate of ten times more than the undefeated American.

‘Money’ remains a huge 1/5 favourite but the cut in the Crumlin man’s odds suggest the public aren’t as confident of a Mayweather win as they previously were.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Our traders have been confident of a Mayweather victory since we first opened the book on this bout, but the latest update suggests that McGregor may provide a lot more trouble than we all originally believed.”

It’s difficult to know how all this plays out. All logic points to an easy, easy win for one of the greatest boxers of all time.

Considering McGregor has never even fought in a boxing ring professionally before, it’s hard to imagine any other result.

Boxing is a funny old game, though. Two men: one defensive master, one knock-out artist – anything could happen.
