Dunfermline Athletic finished last season just four points outside of the Ladbrokes Championship play-off spots. And they could well crack the top four this season, having made a fantastic acquisition in the form of Andy Ryan.

The 22-year-old was arguably the outstanding player in League 1 last term, netting 23 times in 32 games for Airdrieonians, including a stunning hat-trick away to East Fife.

Having also chalked up a flurry of assists for the Diamonds last term, he’s also more than just a prolific marksman.

Despite spending last season in League One, the pacy forward has already gained plenty of experience of football at a higher level. Ryan initially burst onto the scene as a 17-year-old at then-Championship Hamilton Academical, going on to play 92 games for the Accies.

That was followed by stints at Arbroath, Forfar Athletic and Airdrie, with the lethal finisher scoring an incredible 38 per cent of the latter’s goals in 2016-17.

There’s every chance he’ll manage to score 20+ again this season, with Allan Johnston’s attack-minded, energetic Pars side seemingly the ideal fit.

He’s certainly hit the ground running at East End Park. Having only joined the club earlier that day, Ryan went on to bag a brace in Tuesday night’s Challenge Cup victory over Arbroath.

Next up for Dunfermline is a home game against Falkirk on Saturday, with 31/20 for the hosts to enjoy a third successive victory.
