Betting suspended on Sam Allardyce becoming the new Everton boss

After over a month of searching, Everton finally look as though they have their man.

With the Toffees said to be in advanced talks to bring Sam Allardyce to Goodison Park, we’ve suspended betting on the 63-year-old taking charge on Merseyside.

Big Sam was as short as 1/7 for the Goodison job on Tuesday after being as lengthy as 8/1 last week.

Paulo Fonseca pushed him all the way after coming into 5/4 from 50/1, but with a deal for Allardyce now thought to be in place, the book has been closed on who will become the new Toffees’ boss.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “It’s taken a while, and we’ve seen plenty head this market, but it looks like Everton have finally found their man.”

“And with a return to the Prem seemingly imminent for Big Sam, we’re taking no more chances – and no more bets.”

Even if he is appointed today, the ex-England manager will likely not take charge of Everton’s home fixture this evening against West Ham.

That means his first game will be against Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues are 5/6 to win that one, with the Terriers priced at 10/3.
