Arsenal and Man City ready to go back in for Jonny Evans

| 01.12.2017

Arsenal and Manchester City are reportedly set to go head-to-head in a battle for Jonny Evans’ signature.

Both clubs were interested in the West Bromwich Albion captain in the summer. However, the Baggies refused to budge from their £30m asking price.

Making a decision over Evans’ future could be one of the first major challenges for new West Brom boss Alan Pardew.

The 29-year-old has 18 months to run over his new deal but isn’t expected to sign an extension. Selling Evans would raise much-needed funds to improve the squad overall and help them avoid the drop.

Arsenal need defensive reinforcements as Per Mertesacker is retiring at the end of the season.

City are also short of options in central defence. John Stones is currently injured, while Vincent Kompany’s fitness can’t be relied upon. That only leaves Nicolas Otamendi and Eliaquim Mangala.

In the meantime, Evans will hope to lead West Brom to a crucial win against Crystal Palace this weekend.
