Backing Bristol in the King George at Kempton

| 22.12.2017

What a race we have in store for the King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day.

The feature race of the day from the Winter Festival looks a highly competitive renewal with a number of big names involved.

Full declarations haven’t been made but whatever field lines up on the day, it’s going to be seriously exciting.

Might Bite is the current hot favourite at 11/8. And that’s probably a fair price on the Cheltenham RSA winner.

Nicky Henderson’s eight-year-old has won on his last four starts including a win at Sandown back in November.

Bristol De Mai is next in the betting at 10/3. And that’s a price we like a lot. Nigel Twiston-Davies six-year-old star has been in tremendous form this season.

He beat Blaklion in the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby at the start of November. And then he won again at Haydock, destroying Cue Card by a massive 57L.

Thistlecrack will intrigue a number of punters at the current 5/1 price.

Colin Tizzard’s nine-year-old had a disappointing outing at Newbury last time out, well beaten by Beer Goggles.

He destroyed the field here last year and that’s something to consider despite his injury worries since then.

Fox Norton and Whisper will also be in with a decent shout at 6/1 and 10/1, respectively. Regarding Whisper, he was narrowly beaten by Might Bite at Cheltenham and Aintree.

However, Nicky Henderson’s nine-year-old has been in superb form this season, winning at Kempton in November.

He was narrowly beaten by Total Recall at Newbury but that was off a 12lbs penalty. He won’t have that issue here and looks an interesting E/W bet.

Our final fancy is for Top Notch at a juicy-looking 16/1. He was narrowly beaten at Aintree on his first seasonal outing by Unowhatimeanharry.

But since then, the six-year-old cruised to a win at Ascot and looked good again in victory over Josses’ Hill at Taunton.

Nicky Henderson is primed to include him again here but connections may fancy their chances elsewhere instead.

It’s all set up for a fantastic spectacle on Boxing Day!
