Here’s what Swansea need to do in the January window

January is a pivotal moment of the season for most teams. The January transfer window opens and that gives sides the opportunity to improve.

For some, it can make or break the next six months of the campaign.

The Ladbrokes News team are profiling all 20 Premier League clubs.

Here it’s Swansea City’s turn to go under the spotlight…

What they need

Swansea tend to capitulate when they concede. They have lost games against Stoke City and Everton from winning positions.

The Swans need to toughen up in midfield. They have too many nice, ball-playing midfielders and not enough grit and determination.

Who they’re targeting?

Apparently, the Swans have identified Norwich City’s 19-year-old talent Ben Godfrey as a solution in midfield.

The youngster has impressed as a defensive midfielder at League One high-flyers Shrewsbury Town. A physical presence at 6ft tall, Godfrey is a tough tackler.

If the Welsh outfit are serious about staying up, a big money move for Sevilla’s Steven N’Zonzi would cut the mustard.

Who they might lose?

There aren’t too many assets right now at Swansea. Wilfried Bony might not fancy a relegation battle and could be tempted by another big move.

And there are rumours Renato Sanches may be sent back to Bayern Munich after a disastrous loan spell to date.

Final Thought

It’s going to be immensely hard for Swansea to survive. Even with a new manager in charge, it’s going to be difficult to attract the quality of player they need.

The Swans have to be favourites for the drop amongst the bottom clubs.
