A string of the Premier League’s big hitters are battling to sign Watford’s Abdoulaye Doucoure.

The 25-year-old has shone for the Hornets this term, but is reportedly stalling over a new contract with the Hertfordshire side.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the Frenchman.

And the man himself confirmed there was some truth in those rumours on French television this week.

“It’s true that these clubs are interested. But I’m at Watford for the moment and I want to finish my season well,” he told Telefoot.

But it’s what Doucoure said next when asked who he would prefer to join: “Arsenal, because of Arsene Wenger.”

Doucoure has arguably been Watford’s best player this season, consistently putting in excellent performances.

A box-to-box midfielder with a physical presence, he boasts many attributes that Arsenal sorely lack.

And with seven goals and three assists in the Premier League this season, Doucoure is coming up trumps when it comes to attack too.

He’s under contract at Vicarage Road until 2020, but with a valuation of just £10m by transfermarkt.co.uk, he could prove a steal this summer.
