Women’s UEFA Champions League Final preview: Wolfsburg v Lyon

Published:

The Women’s Champions League Final sees VFL Wolfsburg take on defending champions Olympique Lyon in Kiev.

And in what looks like a cracker, both sides are incredibly aiming for a domestic treble. Lyon are also looking for a third UCL title in a row.

The German club are heavy underdogs at 10/3 to win in 90 minutes. Lyon are 5/6 in the same market. The Draw is available at 23/10.

Two-time champions Wolfsburg are playing in their third final in the last five years. In fact, it’s the third time that these two giants of the women’s game will have faced each other in the final.

Stephan Lerch’s side won their first European trophy in 2013 by beating the French side before going on to defend their title the following year.

But it’s been all Lyon in the previous two years, with Reynald Pedros’ side dominating domestically and in Europe.

Both sides had difficult passages to the final with the pair each facing English opposition at the semi-final stage. Wolfsburg defeated Chelsea 5-1 on aggregate, while Lyon dispatched Manchester City in a tight 1-0 over two-legs.

There has been a German or French club in the last eight editions of this showpiece going right back to 2010. Lyon, Paris Saint-Germain, Wolfsburg, and Frankfurt have played in the bulk of the finals. And three of them have ended in stalemates over 90 minutes.

Only three teams have seen both teams find the net. Both Teams To Score – No is Evens. Six of the eight have seen Under 2.5 Goals. That’s available here at 17/20.

Wolfsburg have never lost to Lyon over 90 minutes in a final. The Wolves are 3/4 on the Double Chance market.
