The Champions League returns this week, with the tournament’s iconic theme to be blasted across grounds from Manchester to Monaco.

Ahead of Tuesday night’s group stage curtain-raisers, we take a look at how the tournament winner’s market is shaping up.

The favourites

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City were dumped out of the quarter-finals by Premier League rivals Liverpool last year. But the Citizens are 9/2 favourites this time out.

City racked up 100 points in the Prem last term, and have started this season in similarly strong fashion. They host Olympique Lyonnais on Wednesday, with Pep’s men 2/11 to kick off with a win.

Likely challengers

Guardiola’s former club Barcelona are next-best at 6/1. Barca suffered a shock exit to Roma in the knockouts last term, but have added the likes of Malcom, Arturo Vidal and Clement Lenglet to their ranks this summer.

They’re followed by 13/2 Juventus, who now have regular UCL Final hero Cristiano Ronaldo in their ranks.

Paris Saint-Germain are closely behind at 7/1. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich – now under head coach Niko Kovac – are 8/1 to end their five-year wait for European glory.

Despite winning the last three UCL titles, Real Madrid are now alongside Der FCB at 8/1, following Ronaldo’s exit to Turin.

Dark horses

Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid have arguably the best defence around, but are still yet to lift Europe’s biggest title. They’re 10/1 to change that this season.

2018’s beaten finalists Liverpool are 11/1. Having won their first five games of this season, they could be many people’s fancy. The Reds host PSG at Anfield on Tuesday, with a home win priced at 5/4.

The Reds are followed by Prem rivals Tottenham Hotspur (20/1) and Manchester United (25/1).
