Man City v Man United Tips: Guardiola and Mourinho head into battle

Manchester City

All eyes will be on the Etihad Stadium this afternoon, as Manchester City face off against Manchester United in the season’s first Manchester Derby.

Jose Mourinho’s men head into the match on a high after a spectacular turnaround against Juventus in the Champions League.

Can they now bring an end to City’s 11-match unbeaten run? We’ve previewed the Super Sunday clash with a full complement of tips.

Match Odds

Man United defied the odds against Juve in midweek. They’ll need to do so again here if they want to take all three points. Our traders have them down at 13/2.

Their cross-town rivals are in excellent form, especially on their own patch.

City have won seven of their last eight home Premier League matches since United won 3-2 at the Etihad in April. They’re 4/11 to continue that run.

Honours-even between the two Manchester clubs is priced at 19/5.

Talking Tactics

United’s tendency to slow start will likely encourage City to get going on the front foot.

That should allow the trio of Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero and Riyad Mahrez to ask plenty of difficult questions about the visitor’s defence.

Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof will be the central defensive pairing charged with restricting the fab-three. They’ll need to remain disciplined in the face of a potential City onslaught.

It’s a similar story for Paul Pogba. The Frenchman has been inconsistency personified in recent weeks. Any lapses in concentration will be pounced upon by messrs Bernardo and David Silva.

Anthony Martial provides the main threat for United. He’ll line-up alongside Juan Mata and Marcus Rashford in a front three which should have plenty of movement.

Romelu Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne will be missing for their respective sides.

Goalscorer Odds

Only Wayne Rooney has scored more Manchester Derby goals than Sergio Aguero in the Premier League era. He’s 4/5 to net Anytime or 3/1 to Score First.

United will look towards the bang in-form Martial. The 22-year-old has scored in each of his last four top-flight matches and is 3/1 to continue that hot streak here.

If the strikers don’t do the business, then the defenders might. Centre-halves have a decent record of netting in this fixture over the last half-decade or so.

Vincent Kompany is a 10/1 shot for the hosts, while Smalling, who hit the net in April, is chalked up at the same price.
