Premier League review: Spurs give Chelsea the blues at Wembley

Gameweek 13 of this year’s Premier League season threw up more than its share of drama and talking points.

Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur won convincingly, while Maurizio Sarri tasted defeat as Chelsea manager for the first time.

Here’s your round-up of the big talking points…

Tottenham sublime in derby success

Tottenham’s 3-1 win over Chelsea in Saturday night’s London derby was thoroughly deserved.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men were 2-0 up inside 16 minutes through Dele Alli and Harry Kane. Alli’s pressing of Mateo Kovavic did much to stall Sarri’s Chelsea plan.

It was Pochettino’s 22nd London derby win since taking charge of Spurs in 2014. It was arguably their best performance of the season, and despite having so many players at the latter stages of the World Cup, they appear to be showing no sign of fatigue.

They’re now 3/10 to secure a top-four finish, and 13/8 to beat Arsenal in Sunday’s North London derby.

More misery for Mourinho

But while Spurs are flying, Manchester United’s season – and top four hopes – took another sour turn with a 0-0 draw at home to Crystal Palace.

Jose Mourinho had called out some of the younger United players in the press last week, and his words seemed to have little impact as the Red Devils struggled to create good chances.

Palace even had more shots on goal at Old Trafford. Mourinho’s men are now 9/2 for a top-four finish, while odds of 300/1 suggest any title chances are long gone.

City and Liverpool keep on winning

It was business as usual for Man City and Liverpool, with each winning comfortably at West Ham United and Watford respectively.

Pep Guardiola’s Citizens were 3-0 up by half-time, and added a fourth in stoppage time to complete a 4-0 rout at the London Stadium.

Liverpool had to wait a little longer, but three goals in the final 33 minutes were more than enough for victory at Vicarage Road.

It means City still lead Jurgen Klopp’s men by two points, with Tottenham a further three behind. We’re 2/9 about City winning the league this season, with Liverpool 4/1.

Disciplined Huddersfield outfox Wolves

After failing to win their opening 10 games of the season, Huddersfield Town are up to 14th (ahead of Burnley v Newcastle) thanks to a fine 2-0 win at Wolves.

An Aaron Mooy double handed the Yorkshire side three points, and they’ve now collected seven points from their last nine games.

They’re 8/11 to go down, leaving Cardiff as unwanted 1/3 favourites for the drop. David Wagner’s men are 29/20 to make it three wins from four at home to Brighton on Saturday.

No Ozil, no problem for Emery

Unai Emery raised eyebrows with his team selection for Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Bournemouth on Sunday.

The Spaniard went 3-4-3, meaning there was no room for Mesut Ozil. The club’s highest-earner didn’t even come off the bench, as the Gunners maintained their chase on the top-four with a hard-fought win.

It remains to be seen if Emery will stick with the formation, or if it was a move specifically to counter the Cherries pace and energy.
