PL Darts tips: Can Price surprise Van Gerwen in Nottingham?

It’s off to Nottingham this Thursday for week six of the 2019 Premier League Darts.
We’ve got James Wade, Rob Cross, Michael van Gerwen and Gerwyn Price all sharing top spot with seven points.
The Machine takes on Mensur Suljovic tonight, with MVG looking to rediscover his form against Price. Here’s your full rundown of this week’s fixtures…
Nathan Aspinall v Michael Smith – Draw
This is a really tricky one for Michael Smith. Nathan Aspinall is a man on a high after his first televised PDC Tour win at the UK Open in Minehead.
Bully Boy hasn’t got going in 2019, but retains 11/10 favouritism to win this one. There’s 9/5 about Aspinall and 3/1 says the Stockport slinger grabs a draw.
There’s 2/3 on the Aspinall/Draw Double Chance. Amazingly, Smith sits eighth in the table but has thrown more 180s than anyone. He’s 4/6 to chuck the most maximums in Nottingham.
Smith will be desperate for a win, while Aspinall will be keen to impress. It could shake itself out all-square.
James Wade to beat Mensur Suljovic
If you boast the highest average and the highest checkout percentage, then you’re doing things right. And that’s exactly the case for James Wade right now.
The Machine is throwing excellent arrows, and walloped Darryl Gurney last week with a 109.59 average.
On current form, there’s little to argue against Wade’s Evens favouritism to beat Mensur Suljovic. The Gentle is there or thereabouts, but can’t quite put a run together. He’s 2/1 to win this one with 3/1 about a draw.
But we can’t see past Wade. The Aldershot arrowsmith is 9/2 to be King of the Oche and 11/10 to ping in the most maximums.
Rob Cross to beat Raymond van Barneveld
Like Wade, Rob Cross is another who is really starting to come good. Voltage has won his last two, and reached the final of the UK Open.
Cross is 1/2 to beat Barney, with the Dutchman running out of time to bag a win on his farewell campaign.
Van Barneveld just can’t raise his game above what is usually a 93-95 average. Another such performance is unlikely to beat the 2018 world champion, but 7/2 says Barney ups his game and takes the win.
There’s 13/5 about Cross to be King of the Oche, and he’s 8/13 to land the most 180s. Each of Barney’s three defeats have come by three legs or more, and there’s 13/2 about Cross to win 7-3.
Michael van Gerwen v Gerwyn Price – Draw
Mighty Mike is having a bit of a wobble lately. The Dutchman lost to James Wade in Exeter, before being held to a 6-6 draw by guest star John Henderson in Aberdeen.
Now he takes on an unbeaten Gerwyn Price. Our traders are 4/9 about MVG, but there’s 4/1 apiece for a Price win or a draw.
The latter could be popular, especially if MVG’s doubles are off again, with Iceman already sharing points in three of his five matches. But if you fancy Van Gerwen to roar back into life, there’s 7/1 about a 7-2 win.
The 180 bed should take a pounding in this one, with Evens about over 6.5 maximums.
Peter Wright v Daryl Gurney – Draw
The final match of the night could be one of the closest. Peter Wright has won two of his last three, while Gurney will be desperate to improve on last week’s 7-0 defeat to Wade.
We could have another draw on the cards here. Both of the pair’s meetings last season ended 6-6, and 3/1 says it happens again.
Snakebite is Evens to win, with Superchin 2/1. We can expect the Scotsman to dominate the 180 contest though. Wright has posted 16 maximums to Gurney’s seven in the competition, and 5/4 says he bangs in the most 180s.
