PL Darts tips: Van Gerwen to down Gurney in Berlin?

Michael Van Gerwen Darts

Guten tag! Premier League Darts rolls on to Berlin for night seven of this year’s competition.

Michael van Gerwen sits top of the table after his win over Gerwyn Price last week. The Dutchman takes on Daryl Gurney this time around.

This week’s guest star is up-and-coming talent Max Hopp. The German could send the local crowd wild if he can beat the struggling Raymond van Barneveld in the night’s final match.

Rob Cross to beat Gerwyn Price

After an inconsistent 2018, Rob Cross is starting to look like a world champion on a far more regular basis. Voltage has won his last three matches, and only sits behind Van Gerwen on legs won.

He threw a handy 101 average in a 7-3 thumping of Van Barneveld last week, and is 6/5 to down Price in Berlin. Iceman saw his unbeaten campaign end in defeat to MVG last time around, and is 13/8 to bounce back with a win.

Cross should have enough firepower to see this through, but with Price proving so hard to beat, it could be a close one.

There’s 8/1 about Cross to win 7-4 and 5/1 says he takes it 7-5. And with 36 maximums between them already in the tournament, our traders are offering 11/10 about over 6.5 180s.

James Wade to beat Peter Wright

These two have met plenty of times over the years, with Wade edging the head-to-head record by a narrow 18 wins to 17.

But the Machine has won the last two meetings, which is indicative of his return to form this year.  It’s not enough to convince our traders, with Wade 6/4 versus Snakebite’s 5/4 in the match betting.

This should be a cracking contest, and though Wright has found his groove lately, there’s a conviction to Wade’s arrows this year. Our traders give 6/1 on Wade to win 7-4 and 17/2 about a 7-5 win.

The treble 20 bed could be in trouble here too. This pair have chucked 37 maximums between them so far in the Premier League, and we’ve got 4/5 about over 5.5 180s.

Michael van Gerwen to beat Darryl Gurney

After a couple of sub-par weeks with defeat to Wade and a draw with John Henderson, Michael van Gerwen roared back into form with a 7-3 trouncing of Price last week.

Mighty Mike is 1/4 to keep that up against Darryl Gurney, having won 18 of 22 meetings against Superchin.

Gurney is 11/2 for a surprise win, but the Northern Irishman will have to up his game. He currently holds the lowest checkout percentage and he’s thrown the fewest maximums.

MVG could clear up here, and the Dutchman is 2/1 to be king of the oche, and 10/11 to land the most 180s. 5/1 says Van Gerwen wins 7-3.

Michael Smith v Mensur Suljovic – Draw

A draw isn’t really enough for either Michael Smith or Mensur Suljovic at this stage, but that’s exactly what they might end up with.

The pair have near-identical checkout percentages, and have won and lost almost the same number of legs. Even the last four meetings have seen each man win two apiece.

So the draw stands out here at 3/1. Bully Boy has been handed favouritism at 11/10, with the Gentle slight outsider at 7/4.

If anyone is to have an edge here, it should be Smith with his 180s. The 2019 world championship runner-up is 8/13 to throw the most maximum scores.

Max Hopp to beat Raymond van Barneveld

None of Gary Anderson’s local hero replacements have won a match yet. But could that change in Germany?

Max Hopp will fancy his chances at 7/5 to beat a so far winless Raymond van Barneveld. Barney is also 7/5 to get that first win, with 3/1 about a draw.

Barney just can’t get his averages up over 95 this season, and that could give the local hero the opportunity in front of a roaring home crowd. Hopp’s beaten the two-time world champ twice before, too.
