Arsenal v PSG preview

Arsenal were given a tough first round tie in the Champions League this season, having to travel to Italy to face 2023/24 Europa League winner Atalanta.

The game ended 0-0, with Arsenal having to thank David Raya for keeping them in the game with a tremendous double save, and they'll be relying on their star goalkeeper once again against PSG this week.

Arsenal will want to pick up all three points this week, registering their first win in the Champions League of the season, but PSG won't make it easy for them, especially if their domestic league form is anything to go by.

PSG have won five of their six games in Ligue 1 so far this season, and are also one for one in the Champions League, having beaten Girona in France two weeks ago.

The French outfit have an immensely talented midfield in Vitinha, Joao Neves and Warren Zaire-Emery, and will be hoping that carries them to a win in London this week.

The bookies have Arsenal as the favourites to win the game, but PSG really aren't far behind, with the odds showing why many fans and pundits feel as if this could be one of the games of the week.

Arsenal v PSG team news

Riccardo Calafiori was in training on Monday after an injury scare against Leicester, which is definitely good news for the Gunners considering Ben White is missing from Tuesday's game with an ongoing issue.

Mikel Merino is back in training, but if he does feature it's likely to only be off the bench, with Martin Odegaard not yet fit enough to make it as part of the matchday squad for his side in the Champions League.

Bukayo Saka is expected to continue as his side's right-winger, with Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz pushing to start after goals in Arsenal's aforementioned win against Leicester on Saturday.

PSG are to be without Ousmane Dembele for the trip to Arsenal on October 1, but that's because of a disciplinary issue rather than due to an injury.

Dembele will likely be replaced by Randal Kolo Muani on the wing, or even Marco Asensio is Luis Enrique opts to move the ex-Real Madrid man away from the false nine position.

Along with Dembele, Lucas Hernandez, Presnel Kimpembe and Goncalo Ramos will be missing for the game against Arsenal, but those absences are all linked to long-term injury issues that have been known for some time.

It's not all doom and gloom for PSG though, as after missing the last few games with an injury, including the UCL opener against Girona, Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is expected to be feemed fit enough to return to the squad.

Possible starting line ups-

Arsenal: Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori; Partey, Rice, Havertz; Saka, Trossard, Martinelli

PSG: Donnarumma; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes; Zaire-Emery, Neves, Vitinha; Barcola, Kolo-Muani, Asensio

Arsenal v PSG betting tips & predictions

As covered in our matchday two Champions League 2024/25 accumulator, we're predicting a draw between PSG and Arsenal on October 1, with both teams cancelling each other out, despite their undeniable quality.

Despite both having top tier attacks, we think the game at the Emirates is going to quite a cagey affair, which is why we're not only predicting a draw, but also predicting the score to be 0-0 by the time the full time whistle blows.

Our final two tips are for Arsenal players to be carded, and we're going for Jurrien Timber and Thomas Partey, both of whom have tough tasks against PSG this week.

Timber, should be play at right-back as expected, will be tasked with marking Bradley Barcola, who has arguably been PSG's player of the season so far.

As for Partey, he'll have to deal with the young and exciting midfield of Vitinha, Neves and Zaire-Emery, who could prove to be too fit and energetic for the former Atletico Madrid man, which is why we're tipping him to pick up a yellow card.
