Arsenal v PSV betting tips and odds

Arsenal’s rescheduled Europa League clash with PSV is finally set to take place on Thursday night, denying the Premier League a blockbuster top-of-the-table encounter with champions Manchester City.

The Gunners are 1/2 favourites to complete the double against the Dutch, although a draw would be enough to seal a place in the knockout play-off round.

Ahead of the game at the Emirates, we examine the main talking points and odds to help with our Arsenal v PSV betting tips.

Arsenal v PSV form

Arsenal top the table with a perfect nine points as they prepare to face PSV for the first time in the group stage after the original match was postponed over policing issues following the death of the Queen.

Mikel Arteta’s side had the perfect weekend as they went four points clear at the top of the table after hanging on for a barely deserved 1-0 win at Leeds and a couple of hours later title rivals Manchester City lost at Liverpool by the same scoreline.

Arsenal started their campaign with a 2-1 win at Zurich which they followed with 3-0 and 1-0 victories over last year’s Norwegian champions Bodo/Glimt.

With that in mind, Arsenal, who are on a seven-match winning run in all competitions, are 6/4 to win and under 3.5 match goals for a fourth successive match in the Europa League.

Despite being behind the Gunners in the group, PSV are comfortably the top scorers, having twice put five goals past Swiss champions FC Zurich who admittedly are having a terrible season both domestically and in Europe.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side are going well in the Eredivisie, just a point behind leaders Ajax, and they have only twice failed to score in all competitions this season, so the Gunners to win and concede looks an interesting option at 17/10.

They have also won their last nine home matches across all competitions, with every match involving at least three goals, so that option also appeals at 20/21.

Goals at both ends can be backed at 3/5, while a score draw – which would probably suit both teams – is available at 4/1.

A goal in both halves and the match to end all square, though, is 13/2 as a #GetAPrice – Both teams option.

However, for the first of our Arsenal v PSV betting tips, we like the 11/4 on the hosts to win or draw, both teams to score in the second half and over 2.5 match goals as a #GetAPrice option.

Arsenal v PSV head to head

The teams last met in the round of 16 during the 2006-7 Champions League campaign when Alex’s late header at the Emirates gave PSV a 2-1 aggregate victory, although they were crushed by Liverpool in the quarter-finals.

The Gunners have lost just one of their six meetings with PSV in the last 20 years and they have never lost at home.

Three of the six matches have ended all square and a draw can be backed at 17/5.

Arsenal v PSV team news

Arteta made wholesale changes for the first two group games, but named Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Ben White and William Saliba in a relatively strong starting line-up for the 1-0 win on the artificial surface in Norway.

With the Gunners facing Southampton at the weekend, Arteta could be tempted to retain some of his key players against a team that has scored 35 goals in 10 matches in the Eredivisie.

Emile Smith Rowe and Mohamed Elneny remain out, while Oleksandr Zinchenko is doubtful with a calf injury which has forced him to miss the last four games.

PSV’s Yorbe Vertessen scored twice in a 5-1 victory in Switzerland, but is out with a muscle injury and he joins Luuk de Jong and Marco van Ginkel on the sidelines.

Goalscorer odds

With Arteta’s team selection up in the air, it is advisable to check the line-ups an hour from kick-off before getting involved, especially in the first goalscorer market.

Eddie Nketiah has started all three group games and scored two goals, so he perhaps looks a safer option than Gabriel Jesus to open the scoring at 7/2 as he did against Bodo/Glimt last time out or 23/20 to find the net in our Arsenal v PSV betting tips.

Marquinhos also started the first couple of matches, opening the scoring in Zurich, so he can be backed at 6/1 to break the deadlock or 2/1 just to score.

Having scored the only goal of the game against Leeds on Sunday, just as he did in a 1-0 win in Norway, Saka is available at 5/1 and 13/8 in the two markets.

Of the outsiders Fabio Vieira is 23/10 to get on the scoresheet, while Saliba is 22/1 to draw first blood or 7/1 to find the net.

PSV have the top two scorers in the Eredivisie in Cody Gapko (9) and Xavi Simons (8) and they are 15/2 and 9/1 to net the first goal of the game respectively or 5/2 to 3/1 to hit the back of the net.

Former Aston Villa midfielder Anwar El-Ghazi has scored three goals in his last two appearances and is 12/1 and 4/1 in the two markets.
