Boris Johnson new favourite to be next Tory leader
Published:
Following his speech at the party’s conference in Manchester, our traders have made Boris Johnson the new favourite to be the next Conservative Party leader.
The Foreign Secretary had been a 6/1 shot earlier in the week. However, the 53-year-old has now seen his leadership odds trimmed to 4/1, a cut which takes him into favouritism.
However, it’s still a very open field following the conference.
BoJo is followed in the betting by former market leader David Davis at 5/1, with Home Secretary Amber Rudd priced up at 8s.
Also at 8/1 are Jacob Rees-Mogg and Philip Hammond, with Andrea Leadsom and Scottish Conservatives leader Ruth Davidson both available at 16/1.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Money talks, and punters now believe it’s BoJo who’ll be taking over the Conservative party helm next.”
