Damian Lewis back in the hunt to be Bond, James Bond

Published:

Homeland star Damian Lewis is back in contention to become the next actor to portray James Bond, according to Ladbrokes.

Lewis, a former front runner and long-time favourite for the role, had been as big as 16/1 for the 007 gig on Thursday morning, but Bond backers have taken particular interest in the 45-year-old and Lewis now finds himself in the frame once again at 3/1.

Jack Huston at 2/1 and James Norton at 9/4 top the betting following unprecedented gambles on the duo in the last week, while it’s a 7/2 chance that Aidan Turner is given the thumbs up.

Unfortunately for previous favourite Tom Hiddleston and his fans, the Night Manager star’s odds have drifted out to 6/1, with the bookies barely laying a penny on him since he started his very public romance with Taylor Swift.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “Bond betting is as wide open as it’s ever been with five runners and riders at single figure odds.

“Movie bosses are keeping punters on their toes and it wouldn’t surprise us if we see a fair few more names thrown into the hat before the big reveal is finally made.”

Outside chancers include former favourite Idris Elba at 12/1, alongside Tom Hardy, while it’s 14/1 Bond is portrayed by any female.
