Dan Skelton: Midnight River has great chance in Coral Gold Cup

Published:

Ladbrokes ambassador Dan Skelton marks our card for his eight runners on Saturday, including the chances of Midnight River in the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury.

Skycutter – 12.36 Bangor

Skycutter is having his first run for us. He looks like a horse with a bit of form the season before last and he starts over 2m3f which is a nice starting point. I don’t have heaps of expectations; I just want to see where we are at.

Catch Him Derry – 2.21 Bangor

Catch Him Derry ran OK in a bumper to a point but was too keen and he has to learn to settle. Once he does that, we have seen a nice bit of work at home from him on occasions and he looks like a horse who can win races.

Jay Jay Reilly – 12.30 Newbury

Jay Jay Reilly has a great chance here as he steps up in trip. The ground was a little quick for him the last day at Kempton, but he is a progressive horse and I give him a big chance in this race.

Theformismighty – 1.05 Newbury

He is a lovely horse and definitely a chaser down the line. He ran OK at Aintree on his first start for us, but since then he has improved a good bit at home and I think he will run well here. I don’t think he is just going to turn up and win, with some fancier types in here, but I do like him.

Get A Tonic – 1.40 Newbury

She didn’t go that well over fences the other day, although it was a good race. I’m still not overwhelmed with how she performed over fences and I think we are better off over hurdles. The trip here is ideal and she should have a nice chance.

Punta Del Este – 2.15 Newbury

He is biting off quite a lot here in this Intermediate Hurdle, but he’s in good form after a run at Wetherby the other day. You have to take into consideration that he’s only a four-year-old, but he is going nicely at home and hopefully he has a little each-way chance here.

Midnight River – 2.50 Newbury

We run Midnight River in the big race and it is a race we’ve had in mind for him for some time. He ran nicely in the Charlie Hall for a long time but couldn’t beat the top two. He won two key races last year though and the trip won’t be an issue and although it’s highly competitive, I feel like he is our best chance this weekend.

Real Stone – 3.25 Newbury

He won last weekend at Haydock when the race fell apart. He comes here in great health. This is a similar track and he should go very well.
